AutoUP lets you keep all your Windows Apps Updated With Just A Click

It is always recommended to keep all your Apps updated as the new updates bring in performance and stability improvements. Some updates are so important that they fix the bugs and security threats; while there are others that bring in new features. Linux distributions have a great advantage of keeping all the software up to date with a single update manager, provided by the distribution. Doing the same task in Windows can be quite a hassle when it comes to non Microsoft software as they can not be updated with Windows Updates. Even the new Windows 8 Store only allows Metro app updates.Thankfully, AutoUP is a simple yet very handy utility which lets you keep all your apps updated with a single click. AutoUP lets you scan for updates for the third party applications installed on your PC. You can then download all the Beta/Stable updates to a single folder of your convenience.

AutoUP Key Features

  • Scan and Download updates for third party apps installed on your PC
  • Download software from AutoUP’s catalog.
  • Check and Install Windows updates
  • Optional automatic startup, scan and update download.
AutoUP also lets you view or edit Windows startup programs as well as your system configuration. This feature seems to be added just to increase the program’s feature set.
AutoUP works on all Windows versions. It requires .Net framework 2.0 or above to run.

The Interface and Working

At a paltry 340 KB, AutoUP is as light as it can get. Just extract the downloaded zip file to a convenient folder and launch the app. An installer would be more helpful for new users though. AutoUP at present can scan for updates for over 70 popular Windows apps with more being added to the list every release.

The interface looks slightly outdated, however all the functionalities are neatly sorted into tabs, making it extremely simple to use the program. Scan and downloading app updates is insanely easy with AutoUP. I sorely missed the ability to install the updates within the program but I guess that is not pretty simple to achieve given how much of a mess some apps can be to install.

The ability to download new apps from AutoUP catalog is another plus. However the number of apps is currently quite limited, thus restricting the utility of this feature.

The ability to automatically scan and download updates on launch is really godsend. You can also set the app to auto start with Windows.

Other features are passable

Windows updates are much better handled by the default Windows update program unlike AutoUP which muddles optional Windows updates with important updates. Other features like the ability to view your system specs and tweak startup programs are implemented at the very basic level and there are much better apps to handle these specific functions.

Overall

AutoUP does best what is supposed to without any fuss. AutoUP saves a lot of time spent downloading updates for apps individually. Given it is completely free and nag free, AutoUP is definitely a must have for anyone who wants all his apps up-to-date with the least possible hassle.
