uTorrent is a very popular BitTorrent client which always provides faster performance and consume insignificant amount of system resources. And it supports previous torrent files as well as magnet links. It comes for free and if you want more power you can go for ‘uTorrent plus’ for some money.

Sometimes you might have noticed that the download speed indicated there is lesser than half of your internet connection speed. Then obviously you check the internet connection and what if there is no problem. Then the problem must be with the uTorrent.

Here we are discussing how to configure uTorrent to get the maximum out of your internet connection speed.

Step by Step Configuration

Health of Torrent

This is the number one factor. There has to be a greater number of seeds and lesser number of peers. Seeds are the people who have already downloaded the file and only uploading. Peers are still downloading while simultaneously uploading already downloaded parts of the file.
When you download the torrent file you can see the number of seeds and peers. Again you can see the current number of seeds and peers once you start downloading file in uTorrent. There are services called trackers to update the status of the seeds and peers.
If you have unhealthy torrent, in other words more peers and less seed, all the below configurations won’t help. So get a Healthy torrent first.

Router Settings

When you go to Options -> Preferences -> Connections in uTorrent you will be able to see the port used for incoming connections. If you are behind a firewall or a router, they must open this port for incoming connections.

Even if you have no way to accept incoming connections, still you can download the files. But in that case there is a possibility for you to get banned from some trackers which lead to lesser download speeds.
The way to open port would depend on the Firewall or the Router. In order to configure that, you have to read the user manual for the product.
Tip: Use a port around 10000. Some ISPs block all the ports after ~15000.

Bandwidth

When you go to Options -> Preferences -> Bndwidth you will be able to see current bandwidth configuration.

Here you must set the Maximum upload rate. If you have greater upload rate your download speed will decrease. Therefore set an appropriate maximum upload limit and that would depend on your internet connection. I suggest you to set half of the amount of your upload speed here.

Of course you can set very VERY lower upload speed, but here we are sharing file. You can download because someone else is uploading. So be considerate enough to do your duty as well.

By changing number of connections you might be able to increase the speed of downloading. However, this might lead to very lower speeds as well. Try increasing Maximum number of connected peers per torrent and decreasing number of upload slots per torrent. If this won’t work you can always go back to default configuration.

Protocol Encryption

Some ISPs block all the torrent traffic or give them a very low priority. If you suspect such, you can enable protocol encryption from Options -> Preferences -> BitTorrent.

Then your ISP won’t be able to identify that this is BitTorrent traffic. However once you enable Protocol encryption you will get slightly lesser download speed due to encryption overheads. So enable this only if it’s highly required.

Queuing

Finally you have to set Queuing. For that you have to go to Options -> Preferences -> Queuing.

If you are downloading many torrents at the same time, you will be having lots of Network Overheads. So my recommendation is download only one torrent at a time. For that set Maximum number of active downloads to 1.
Once the torrent completes downloading it will automatically start seeding. If you have many numbers of seeding torrents again you will suffer lower download speeds. Best configuration is have one downloading torrent while having another seeding torrent. For that set Maximum number of active torrents to 2.
Now you will be able to download torrents with maximum utilization of your internet connection Bandwidth.

Despite a number of good BitTorrent clients for Windows, downloading torrents is definitely not without its own fair share of annoyances. Be it the increasing number of blockades and speed throttles for BitTorrent access or the inconvenience of having to use platform dependent clients across devices.

All you need to do is to paste the link of the torrent and Zbigz will give you a direct HTTP link after downloading the torrent in its own servers. How It Works?

The principle behind Zbigz is extremely simple. Their servers start caching (or downloading, in simple terms) the torrents which you add in the site and once it is done, you can download the file as a direct download. Heck, you can even receive notifications through email when the file is done caching. There is no need to configure proxies and firewall to download torrents. Another nice touch by Zbigz is user anonymity. All the torrent requests are handled on your behalf by Zbigz, keeping your IP anonymous.

Fool Proof

Downloading torrents from zbigz is extremely straight forward. All you need to do is to paste the link of the torrent file and press go. If you have the .torrent file you can upload it as well. Registering free on zbigz lets you keep the torrent files up to 7 days and simultaneously download maximum of two torrents which is really meagre though. Do note that you have to keep Zbigz open to cache the torrent if you are a free account user.

Performance

Despite Zbigz claims of up to 150 KBps downloads for free accounts, I was never able to get speeds beyond 80KB/s after two days of testing with torrents from various sources. Well seeded torrents were cached incredibly fast with caching speeds even clocking 30 MB/s, while the ones seeded scarcely took considerable time.

Zbigz zips your torrent downloads if it contains more than one file present in it, and this is where I encountered some serious stability issues. Zipping the torrent took very long at times and trying to download an individual file resulted in page time out. Only after multiple refreshes, I could get the files to download. This is something critical Zbigz should get fixed soon. Other than the occasional time outs and annoying popups prompting for upgrade, everything worked dandy.

There is Nothing like Free Dinner

The feature parity between the Free and Premium accounts will make free users cringe. Free account users get some real third-class citizen treatment with insane speed cap of 150 KB/s for downloads and support for a maximum of only 2 simultaneous torrent downloads. No such restrictions exist in the premium account. Apart from that, premium users even get dedicated channels for fast caching, have no ads and can even stream media files while they are being cached. Duh.

Final Words

There is no way you are going to rely on Zbigz Free as your primary BitTorrent client if your ISP provider or workplace does not have any issues with BitTorrent usage, thanks to severe limitations imposed on the Free account. The existing speed and stability issues makes the matter only worse.
However, if you quickly need to get some BitTorrent access where there is no client installed or simply if the access to torrents is blocked, you will be simply better off with Zbigz as it really saves you some precious time spent in circumventing network blockades and client installation. Also if you are a heavy torrent user, we recommend you to give the Premium account a good try.zbigz

Torrific Alternatives - How to direct download Torrents?

Earlier I had posted about many post which allowed users to direct download torrents through HTTP. Now that the site is down, many people are looking for the alternatives. After weeks of searching, I have found two good alternatives to the site. One thing you need to keep in mind is that these are in no way as good as Torrific but they do seem to serve the common motive – Torrent downloads over HTTP. If you remember torrific or had been a member of it, then you know that premium membership was of no use at Torrific; users could download lots of files and the restriction regarding speed and storage of files was very less. But, these sites I am going to tell you about have quite a restriction regarding free downloads. Don’t get me wrong, you can download files without having to buy the premium membership, but you might not find the ‘free download service’ good enough compared to Torrific’s.

PUT.iO

It is a relatively new site still in its beta stage. You can register on the site with your Facebook, Twitter, or Dropbox account. If you don’t want to login with those accounts, you’ll require an invitation code. Since the site is in beta, there’s no limitation as to how much you can download (however there is a file size limitation of 2 Gb/torrent) or how much bandwidth you can consume. However, you have to download the file to your computer within 24 hours after the torrent is transferred to the server. The site removes downloaded files within 24 hours whether or not you download them to your computer.

ZBigZ

A good alternative to torrific. The downloading speed varies anywhere between 50-150 kbps according to the server load. Files may be stored for a week or longer.

Update : ZBigZ has changed the layout of the site and also, limited the number of torrents for free users to two, meaning you can only leave two torrent links at a time on the site.

Its Cheked and found 100% Free and Full Download Speed

We are going to use a trick to make the downloads faster and resume-able. If you do not use the method mentioned here, you won’t be able to resume the download and the speed will also be very limited. Furk.Net has a download limitation, meaning you can only download files of about 700 Mb, after that you’ll be asked to buy premium membership. Though they say they have no limitation of the file size, they limit you while you download the file as a free user. It’s worth it if you are going to download files/movies of small size.

Go to My Files and then to Add. Now, either put a link to the torrent file you want to download or just upload the .torrent file if you have it on your computer.

Don’t forget to put a tick mark on the option button “Send e-mail when finished”. Click on Add torrent.

Wait for a while and you should receive a notification by email after the file is available for direct download. If the file has already been transferred by someone else earlier, you won’t need to wait.

Once you are on the page shown above, click on the Play button and a file will be downloaded to your computer immediately. Open that file with Notepad.

If you see the texts on notepad properly, you’ll notice <location> tag. The link between the <location> </location> tag represents where your file is. (For ex. you might see <location>http://blabla.blabla/video.mp4</location>) So just copy the texts in between <location> </location> and either open it on your browser or paste it on your download manager. Your download should start without any speed limitation and full resume capability.

Last time, I had talked about different alternatives to Torrific.com for downloading torrents directly. I seem to have missed one very good alternative, PUT.iO. Here we are going to talk about this great site.
PUT.iO obviously stands out among other sites offering similar services, as it offers free package as well as other good features. With free package, however, you can store files of 1 Gb only. To increase the space limitation, you can refer your friends to the site and for every new and valid referral, you get 350 Mb of extra space. You can earn upto 3 Gb’s of space just by referring your friends. And guess what? Both of you receive permanent bump in space! Your referral and you, both will have an extra 350 Mb after joining the site! Isn’t that great?
So, lets get started.

What does this method actually do ?

It quite simple if i have to put it in points..

Faster Seeding for uploader.
Relatively faster downloads than earlier for leecher.

Now what we are going to do is add a "HELL LOT OF TRACKERS" to the current ones. (What are Trackers ?)

How to increase the speed ?

So now coming to the point this is what you have to do.First of all you have to copy this torrent list (Ctrl + C).

After copying it.Just follow the screen shots given below :

After doing that wait for a while for the trackers to update.It might just restart your speed for a minute or two but then it comes back to normal.So nothing to worry about that.
